From Cruise Port: Hobart
Departing Hobart we head through the city to the Tasman Peninsula where we will make a short stop to admire the surrounding views at Pirates Bay Lookout. Here you get a glimpse into the surrounding landscape, and the highest sea cliffs in Australia - factors that were integral to the selection of the area as a convict settlement.
From here we head to the Port Arthur Historic Site where you will have around 4 hours to explore the area at leisure. Your tour includes a complimentary Harbour Cruise around the Isle of the Dead and a guided walking tour with one of the Site's expert guides.
You are able to walk amongst the main penitentiary [prisons]; see the solitary confinement cells and many more buildings in this World Heritage open air museum. Deemed an inescapable prison, your visit here will unveil the grim and violent history of the early Australian Penal system.
This fascinating day will give you great insight into what it was like to be sent to Van Diemen's Land as a convict.
We return directly to Hobart where we can leave you at the Cruise Terminal, the city centre or the Hobart Wharf area as you please. Our return time is scheduled for around 4.45 - 5.00pm but always in good time for you to be back on board in time for sailing.
